Compression Driver Protection Circuit
I have a bi-amp speakers, and I don't have this capacitor wired into my system. Changing the series resistance higher will allow for a 2" coil, the original was for a 1" coil driver. This amp seems louder than the 300 watt power amp i used before. As your lighbulb adds resistance to the circuit, your tweeter will smear up and down in frequency range, like a slide whistle (only not so drastic). http://vocollectapp.com/compression-driver/compression-driver-light-bulb-protection-circuit.html

I've heard of the Harley bulb, but I would hope vibration of the crossover should be low enough so it wouldn't make any difference.
It goes in series with the hot lead to the compression driver. If the speakers are not up to the task, sell them and move on to something better. « Last Edit: June 16, 2012, 02:33:58 am by Chuck Simon » Logged Jeff Presented at the 123rd Convention of the Audio Engineering Society. The sound waves pass out through an acoustic horn (B).

Despite chipprogr's wise advise i want to stick a bulb inline with the HF driver and see what happens. This work was largely ignored by his contemporaries and was only later popularized by Fancher Murray. Today the majority of compression drivers, either by inheritance or design, are based on the Like those stupid commercials on tv and in the MTV videos - if you can see the woofer flop it is a PROBLEM because you cannot *see* movement above 40hz or http://forum.speakerplans.com/hf-driver-protection-circuit_topic15088_page2.html Think about it....it's basic physics.

As far as having bi-amped and tri-amped without it, it's done all the time. http://www.electro-tech-online.com/threads/compression-driver-protection.105492/ They do a great job for the horns ;however, they need to be placed before the high freqency portion of the xover as shown in the Yorkville Pulse schematic. I would suggest the ciruit is drawn wrongly, the TRIAC appears to be connected wrong, and the diodes can't be just diodes, but probably zeners in series with diodes.Click to expand... Same applies here with the lightbulb limiter circuit. Cut that out and it will have a scooped sound.
The auther was djk. Yes, I suppose it makes sense to use the same notation., not that it matters: the circuit can be connected either way. Not a problem on a high frequency unit like this, only on bass units. I had to have them reconed because it litterally ripped the voice coil right off the form.
Also, the bridge arrangement of diodes will pass nothing unless the PIV of one of them is exceeded. It works great and protects the drivers.
